5th Grade Abstract Line Paintings

Students learned about the abstract art of Wassily Kandinsky with paintings of bright bold colors and shapes.  To begin the assignment, students had to listen to short sets of music and draw...keeping their eyes closed.  From there they used a small viewfinder to pull out an interesting composition of lines.  Students then transfered the lines to Dura Lar transparent plastic, painted and framed their artwork.  Put in the window and they are SMASHINGLY BRIGHT and BOLD on a sunny day!

5th grade Complementary Color Masks

Learning about color is always fun when you are able to paint.  Students in 5th grade painted their own creative masks using complementary color sets:
RED-GREEN
YELLOW-VIOLET
BLUE-ORANGE

Kindergarten Self-Portraits

Students learned the difference between a portrait and a self-portrait when they made pictures of themselves.
Each picture had likeness to the student as they were able to choose hair, eye, and skin color that resembled their own.

5th Grade Self-Portraits

Fifth graders completed these self portraits using scrap paper.  Students looked at  Matisse's work with the bold bight colors and abstract designs.  Students created work that had likeness to themselves.  Here are a few examples:

2nd Graders Winter Pointsettias

Essential Question:
"How do you make lines without using a writing a tool?"

Second grade students came up with many answers to this question. In creating these flowers that florish in the winter months, students practiced using fine motor skills to tear the paper creating lines in their work. Students loved the tearing process and the results were quite beautiful!
